Now this is the kind of senior center I want to go to when I’m ‘old’ enough to for the services! An article from The Grand Haven Tribune of Grand Haven, Michigan tells of their local center that, “goes well beyond offering the usual fare of activities. Seniors at the Grand Haven center can try their hand at Wii — a Nintendo video game system that allows players to actively participate in such activities as bowling, tennis and golf. Or they can take a trip to a Detroit Tigers game, visit an art museum or even participate in a belly dancing class.”
I can just see the market for belly dancing costumes opening up a whole new sector geared to serving senior centers across the country!
Reportedly, this wide range of activities, including writing classes, dancing, arts and crafts, painting classes, and card games has been very appealing to the senior citizens. Seniors can even play a game or two of pool there. Vermeer Roosen said teenagers come to the Senior Center to use the pool table and often mingle with the senior citizens.
Clearly this center has the right idea about keeping people engaged and active (belly dancing is great exercise) to maintain their health on every level. Read the full story by clicking here.
